“I want to help people engage with their community in ways that are constructive, productive and rewarding.”
City Services
Over 25 city departments depend on sufficient funding from the budget. I will work on behalf of all city workers to fund our city services with the whole city in mind.
Economic Development
I support a Yes/And approach to economic development: the more our city has to offer, the more people will spend their time and money here.
Education
As your city councilor, I will uphold the city’s priority to continue increasing the school budget and do what I can to make sure that students, teachers and families feel supported by our education system.
Housing
Affordability, accessibility, and walkability are a priority, and I will push for more housing in proximity to our two urban downtowns in Northampton and Florence.
The Arts
All over the city people are making and enjoying art at museums, galleries, theaters, fairs and festivals. I support the arts because the arts support the city and bring us together.
Picture Main Street
This project will revitalize and make downtown safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians while supporting businesses. I will continue to advocate for a safer, accessible downtown for all.

Hello!
I’m Benjamin Spencer, a proud Northampton resident running for City Councilor At Large. I would love you to get to know me and what I will bring to the job—and I would love to get to know you and earn your vote.
I would be honored and excited to represent the residents of this city I’ve called home for over 30 years. I have a long track record of being engaged and collaborative in city matters. I have demonstrated a willingness to speak up and successfully advocate for what I believe in, and I want to help others do the same.
I will be a city councilor who listens. Who works to facilitate communication and bridge gaps between residents and city government. Who helps get your questions answered. And I will be a councilor who represents—and shows up for—all residents of the city.
Please take a minute to watch the videos, read my backstory, learn about my priorities, and check out my letters to the editor regarding a variety of Northampton issues over the years.
Questions for me? Please reach out. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me, and thank you for your interest in local government. It is appreciated. It is important. And it is necessary for the future of our city.
